Towards a new stage of social development

The analysis of the evolution of power, money and institutions helps to clarify several of the structural tensions currently affecting contemporary societies.

These include the expansion of complex institutional structures, the dynamics associated with systemic corruption, the growing international importance — military, technological, political, cultural and economic — of non-Western societies, and the technological transformations reshaping economic and social organization.

However, these dynamics do not determine the future evolution of societies in a deterministic way.

History shows that societies are capable of reorganizing their institutions, redefining economic incentives and transforming productive structures when major technological and social changes occur.

In this context, the current technological transformation could open the possibility of a new phase of economic and social development, characterized by higher levels of productivity, institutional efficiency and material prosperity.

The realization of this potential will depend largely on how institutions, economic systems and regulatory frameworks evolve in response to these transformations.

This Perspective is exploratory and separate from the empirical components of the research programe.
